Your choice of religion could mean life or death until a couple of hundred years ago. Learn why and the stories behind these fascinating holy healing wells, the destruction of powerful monasteries and beautifully hand-built churches and cathedrals, which are spread across Wales.
North Wales is a great place to start with the oldest continuous place of pilgrimage in the world. The story of St Winefride’s Well goes back 1400 years and is still thriving today.
Not far away is the smallest cathedral in mainland Britain St Asaph Cathedral. There’s a copy of a 1588 book here, which is one of the most important in Wales. Just around the corner is one of my favourite churches the Marble Church or St Margaret’s Church. One of the most stunning interiors of any UK chuch and known as The Pearl of the Vale.
Just outside the Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno on the North Wales coast is the tiny St Trillo’s Chapel. Hidden away on the shingle beach it’s a real gem not to be missed with a huge congregation of 6 people!
